Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

Mommy and Daddy found out I was a girl one year ago today. They were so excited to see how healthy I was. Mommy went out and bought a bunch of clothes for me afterwards.

Grandpa and Grandma H came to visit on Friday so Mommy and Daddy could go to a Smashing Pumpkins concert. They had a great time and I had fun with my grandparents. I don't like bottles anymore though so I was slightly challenging at bedtime. It wasn't anything a ride in the stroller couldn't fix.

Mommy will have to finish reporting in for me later because I'm taking a short nap this morning. I don't want to sleep too long. There are fun things to do!

Hair!

Mommy did my hair this morning. Isn't it so cool? This was my before picture. It was hard work taming those curls!Daddy had the day off yesterday. We had lots of fun. Mommy was very amused with how he dressed me. He put me in lined overalls and a longsleeved onesie. I definitely wasn't too cold!

I miss using my bouncer chair to sleep in and tried to climb into it on my own. I almost did it.
Daddy gives me fun toys to play with. I want to play the drums when I'm bigger cause I like noise.
My jumperoo is an oldie, but a goody. Is it just Mommy, or is my face getting pudgier again? I should be getting bigger with the amount of food she's been making me eat!
Ah, now the truth comes out. He just wanted to use my overalls for fun.
I've been sleeping pretty well for the most part these days. I can soothe myself back to sleep in less than a minute unless I'm hungry. Mommy has been getting up with me one time in the night and then putting me back down until about 7am. It's working out well for both of us.

Miss Smarty Pants

Mommy is so proud of me. She says that I'm the best student she's ever had. I already learned how to sleep! Last night I woke up after I'd been sleeping for half an hour and I soothed myself back to sleep within a couple of minutes. In fact, I took a nap on Daddy yesterday afternoon. Those two things are both miracles. It had gotten to the point that the only way I could fall asleep was by nursing and if I woke up, I had no ability to self-soothe. Mommy is so glad that she taught me that I can help myself fall asleep. Other than my very minor fussing around 9pm, I slept from 8:30pm-6am today. Not too shabby, huh? Mommy hopes it wasn't just a fluke!!!!!

She told me her sleeping game plan. She'll still nurse me to sleep (or almost to sleep, but slightly awake) because she values that snuggle time with me. However, she won't nurse me for a few hours even if I wake up so I'm in charge of soothing myself back to sleep. She'll come in to rub my back periodically if I can't soothe myself quickly, but she won't pick me up. If I wake up and it's been a while since I ate, then she'll nurse me. She doesn't want to completely ignore my cues, especially once I hit a growth spurt again. However, she thinks it will make everyone happier if I don't nurse once an hour. She's probably right because I'm in a great mood today! I'd better go. I have some exercise to do. Here's a picture of my latest workout.
Standing, here I come!

All Aboard!

Mommy and Daddy jumped on the Sleep Train last night. Mommy was just too exhausted to put up with my nightly shenanigans so she got serious with me. It really wasn't all that bad. Here's how it went:
7:00 - Nurse and snuggle after hanging out in the pool with Daddy and Mommy
7:45 - Get a dose of Motrin to help my teethers
8:15 - Pants change, clothes change, snuggles and more nursing
8:30 - Asleep in my crib
9:28 - Awake in my crib, screaming for mama, the sleepy juice provider
9:30 - Mommy rubs my back but doesn't pick me up or nurse me. I continue to scream. Mommy leaves me after a couple of minutes.
9:35 - Mommy is back to rub my back. I continue to scream because she doesn't pick me up. She leaves me again.
9:42 - Mommy is back. I think I might have caught her crying while she rubbed my back this time. I continue to scream and she leaves me after a bit.
9:49 - Mommy rubs and pats my back and I calm down for a couple of seconds. I scream some more and she leaves me again.
9:57 - Mommy is back and rubs my back while I scream. She leaves.
10:02 - It's quiet. I'm still fighting sleep, but it's getting difficult.
10:04 - Time for Mommy to return, but I'm asleep so she doesn't bother.
2ish am - I wake up and fuss for less than a minute, but then I remember that I CAN fall asleep on my own. I don't need Mommy to come get me.
5:30 - Mommy comes in to get me after I talk in my crib for a while. She nurses me and we snuggle and sleep together in the big bed for a couple of hours.
7:30 - I'm up for the day and happy as can be. Mommy gives lots of loving and attention and seems happier than she has for days. Yay!

34 minutes of crying wasn't too bad compared to some babies. I used to be able to fall asleep on my own so Mommy is just trying to help me remember that I can do it. She doesn't mind nursing me to sleep, but she thinks I should be able to soothe myself back to sleep in the middle of the night.

I got really good at a new skill yesterday. I can easily get from crawling position to sitting and vice versa. I used to let myself fall over so I could crawl, but now I do it smoothly. My head is much happier about that! Since I can pull myself to sitting pretty easily, it will only be a matter of time before I can pull myself to standing. That will be fun!

Therapeutic Camera

Mommy forgot that taking pictures of me always makes her feel better so we did lots of pictures while we were waiting for Daddy to come home.

Hmmm...this looks interesting. The Buddy thinks so too. C'est magnifique! J'aime le Gerber Sweet Potato Puffs.
Who says I don't look like Mommy?
I shall suck on the puff until it goes poof.
Fine motor skills...soon I'll be surgerizing like Daddy.
Hey, I never noticed these before. (Sidenote: Look at all my hair!)
Do you want me to come up there to get you, Mommy?
So when is Daddy getting home?
Hey, did you know there is a baby outside? It looks a lot like me.
Euclid wants to know where Daddy is too.
I have the cutest shadow in the world according to Mommy.
Posing for pictures makes time pass more quickly.
Alright, where is he? I'm sooooo tired!
Must stay awake...
Tada!
Daddy needs to wash his hands before he picks me up.
Finally!
Alright, now I'm grumpy and ready for my nap. That's what happens when I don't get to sleep very much at night.
I sent my servant, I mean my mommy, down to blog for me while I take my nap. Daddy is sleeping too. Mommy is going to let him sleep until this afternoon. He was really tired when he got home. He sat at the bedside of a very sick patient, but all of his patients made it through the night alive so it was a good night.
.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you that I saw Gavin last night. He was heading through on the way to Chicago and we ate supper at the mall. It was lots of fun!

Here's a bonus picture of my puffy gums. Youch!

The Cure

I've found it! The cure for baby fever is......wait for it......ME! Mommy is in a full recovery after a night with very little sleep and lots of pinching (it looks like she has a hickey on her neck, but it's just that my grip is so strong). I knew I could help her out if I really put my mind to it. The trick was to get myself to wake up every hour on the nose. That was hard work! I found that pinching and pulling Mommy's hair worked really well for that. Mommy finally got the strength to transfer me back to my crib and I accidentally slept for three hours. It sounds like Daddy didn't get any sleep last night either, but he won't be home for hours. Sleep training is working really well these days. I only failed one time this week and slept in my crib most of the night. You may have noticed that Mommy hasn't been attending to my blog very well. She's been pretty foggy this week and hasn't had the camera out. She'll try to do better.

You may have guessed that my little teeth haven't broken through yet. I'm really working on it! Mommy and Daddy should be happy that I'm so extremely pleasant during the day, given the fact that I'm teething. I giggle lots and love to play and snuggle. It only makes sense that I give them grief at night. I can't be completely perfect, right?

Party

I partied all night long last night. It's World Breastfeeding Week so it seemed like nursing all night would be highly appropriate. I'm going to try to keep it up for the rest of the week in order to really celebrate.

Do you like Mommy's picture? She blurred herself using Photoshop. Hahaha...she's still trying to be a little modest.
